IT Technician

Working hours: 39.5 per week (Mon – Thurs: 8:00am – 5:00pm; Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm)

The Role

We are seeking an IT Technician to play a key part in Harrison’s IT and Business Systems strategy. They will support the delivery of major business systems projects and support the day-to-day work of the IT Systems team. You will work closely with the IT Systems Lead and our outsourced IT Support provider in supporting the IT infrastructure and the delivery of projects to improve the provision of IT alongside contributing to the development of digital knowledge and capabilities of the internal team.

Your core responsibilities will include the following:

  • Management of hardware assets across all company site locations
  • Provide first line support to the internal team for any hardware related issues, queries or failures. Diagnose faults and organise replacement equipment if required, keeping downtime to a minimum
  • Install and configure computer operating systems and applications, including the internal software stack, Office 365 applications & our ERP system
  • Manage and cooperate on projects alongside our Managed Service Provider.
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems and company network, troubleshooting problems to reduce downtime exposure
  • Support and implement network security architecture including firewalls, web filtering, email security, two factor authentication and VPN.
  • Provide staff training and assistance on basic IT systems and system security procedures
  • Provide first line support for any software-related issues, responding to queries within agreed time limits demonstrating the ability to prioritise and manage multiple open cases
  • Test and evaluate new technology on behalf of Harrison, supporting the roll-out of any new internal applications
  • Support with our GDPR, Cyber Security, IT Security & Protection Policies.
  • Display a proactive work approach, optimise and automate current processes, shaping the future of the company’s IT environment

The Person

To carry out the duties listed above, the following skills, competencies and experiences are necessary:

  • Good understanding of Server, DNS Setup and DHCP Settings and how to configure a firewall.
  • Working knowledge of basic security context for server setup.
  • Experience dealing with Office 365 administration, such as account management.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage internal requests.
  • Ability to manage supplier relationships.
  • Knowledge of managing Active Directory and Domain Controllers.
  • Administer and maintain the organisations email systems including providing first level telephone support and troubleshooting issues.

The following skills, competencies and experiences are desirable but not essential:

  • A degree in business systems, informational technology/computer science or alternative IT-related qualification.
  • Previous experience working with hand held terminal (HHT) devices
  • Previous experience of working with CRM platforms
  • Previous experience of managing hardware (laptops, mobiles, printers) registry for a small/medium sized company and enforcing relevant patch management of operating systems.
